I Speak for Myself is a collection of 40 personal essays written by American Muslim women under the age of 40, all of whom were born and raised in the US. It is a showcase of the true diversity found in American Islam.

This is Big Tent Citizen Islam at its best – a community welcoming of its own internal diversity, and making important contributions to the broader society."

This panel features reflections from four of the contributors (see the book website for further information):

• Souheila Al-Jadda, a Peabody award-winning television producer and journalist on Link TV, who serves as a global expert with United Nations Alliance of Civilizations
• Jameelah Medina, included in Oprah Magazine's list of eighty women leaders of the future, she is the author of The Afro-Latin Diaspora: Awakening Ancestral Memory, Avoiding Cultural Amnesia (2004)
• Rabea Chaudhry, California-based artist (exhibits include the New Orleans Museum of African American Art), attorney, and associate editor for Altmuslimah
• May Alhassen, activist, research assistant for Columbia University's Malcom X Project, PhD student in American Studies and Ethnicity at USC

Followed by Q/A with the audience and a book signing. Sponsors include: Islamic Networks Group, the Silicon Valley Interreligious Council, the Religious Studies Department and Women's and Gender Studies Program at Santa Clara University, and the Silicon Valley Middle East Studies Consortium
