Event Description

"Keep the Diversity; Seek the Harmony" is the theme for this year's community interfaith gathering on Tuesday, October 2nd, 6:00-7:00 pm at the Circle of Palms in downtown San Jose.

Last year, over 300 people displaying the religious diversity of Silicon Valley gathered for "Breaking Bread Together: An Interfaith Reunion," sharing prayers, music, food, and conversation as a sign of respect and appreciation for one another as people of faith. This year, as well as sharing food and conversation, music from different religious traditions will be highlighted. All are invited.

Growing out of 3 decades of Interfaith Dialogues in the South Bay Area, a group of faith leaders joined together to bring the joy of community-wide celebration to the public. South Bay Interfaith involves clergy and lay leaders from many religions, interfaith organizations, and faith-related educational institutions. SBIF events are designed to be apolitical and non proselytizing. They are comfortable for anyone to enjoy - with the expressed purpose of bridging the gaps of understanding between people of faith. SBIF is dedicated to the proposition that people of good will can and do get along well together by engendering respect and a channel for the people to become involved with their community.

The current sponsors of the event are: Campbell United Methodist Church, Cantor/Rabbinic Association of Greater San Jose, Center for Spiritual Enlightenment, Chung Tai Zen Center of Sunnyvale, Council of Churches of Santa Clara County, Catholic Diocese of San Jose, First Unitarian Church of San Jose, Interfaith Space, Islamic Networks Grou, Jewish Community Relations Council of the Peninsula, Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley, The San Jose Stakes of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, Santa Clara University, Silicon Valley Conference for Community and Justice, and South Bay Islamic Association
