TO: Supervisor Liz Kniss, President Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and Mayor Chuck Reed of San Jose:
It is our great pleasure to notify you that the City of San Jose and the County of Santa Clara have officially been chosen to be the Inaugural City in the Partner Cities Network of the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions. We congratulate you and your administration on this distinguished achievement.
The City of San Jose and the County of Santa Clara have shown in word and deed that its citizens, leaders, civic institutions and government have embraced a vision of interreligious harmony and social justice that is at the core of the mission, values and work of the Parliament of the World’s Religions. You have shown an exceptional level of active engagement in advancing these critically-important goals that go beyond good intentions alone. The inspired work and commitment of the Silicon Valley Partner City Group over this past year, culminating in its exemplary case study of the interreligious movement in Santa Clara County and the Profile for Admission to the global network, is to be highly commended.
On behalf of the Partner Cities Network, and the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions, please accept the enclosed Proclamation, along with our esteem for the vital work you are doing.
Along with such legacy Partner Cities as Chicago, Capetown, Barcelona and Melbourne, the City of San Jose and the County of Santa Clara take on a key role among the great cities of the world. As we move ahead in our new century, it is cities such as yours that will lead the way in bringing about a more peaceable and just world.
